Dr Suess Quilt, Playing with my Baby and some batting questions answered...

The title of my post says it all today...

First off, is my first finish in these crazy times...

Remember the fabric I received in my MMM swap last round???

Fabrics!!!

Well, I've put it to use...

The Dr Suess quilt for Kiddo!

And there is one happy recipient!!!

I used a woolen blanket as batting and some wonderful flannel as backing... The quilt is just so snuggly...

I love it!!! And so does Aadi... :) Thats a happy Mom too!

I'm linking up this quilt to Lily's Quilts' Fresh Sewing Day!!!

Fresh Sewing Day

Now that I've made the quilt, there are a few more things on my to-do list for his room... Some pillowcases, some wall art, some organization bins... etc...

One of the waiting list items is wall art! I'm making a wall quilt with the same fabric...

I'm playing with my Accuquilt Go! Baby for this one... A tutorial will come up next week!

Here's a sneak peek...

And some hand sewing...

And now to the third part of my post, some batting questions answered...

In India, we do not get cotton batting! I heard a few of you gasp... I know its ridiculous, but yeah, we do not get it here.. Someone recently asked me what I used in my quilts...

I initially used a polyester batting, but I was not comfortable with the idea of using it for children... I thought about using alternatives...

I started using two layers of plain white flannel...

Drill Flannel Fabric

I also used multiple layers of muslin... But this meant a lot more tedious sandwiching process...

I then used a woolen shawl in one of my quilts and found that it was very comfortable to work with...

But that was only because the quilt was dark and busy, I could get away with it...

For Aadi's quilt, I decided to use a woolen blanket, and I'm just so happy with the result, I've already placed an order for 6 in white color!

What do you use as batting if you do not get in your part?

Renovations... Dreams...

Finally, after a week of destruction, most of the demolition work at home is done!

I'm glad that now, when I see in the evening, there will be something that has been constructed rather than demolished! Such a positive feeling...

Here's how it looks right now,

My to-be kitchen!

I love the fact that big window will be the one I'll be looking out of when I do my dishes! That's the most beautiful that it can be!

Here's the view from my to-be dining room...

The arches have been removed and large openings - rectangular - have been made!

The toilet that was removed... This will be where I'll keep my washing machine...

And this will be my laundry room!

I so love dreaming!

I'm glad that I can imagine these spaces to be beautiful... I'm dying to finish the transformations...

Cannot wait to see this

turn into this

and this

into

Imagination is what is helping me go through this... Though I'll be really glad when this is over...

Too tired to say anything, I'll just let the pictures speak!
They're crappy... It was night and I used my phone camera...

What used to be m studio!

My dining room... Thank God my in-laws live on the first floor... We're eating with them... So at least I dont have to cook in this mess!

What used to be my kitchen!

Saying Goodbye...

Oh no, not to you guys...

I'm saying good bye to this...

No guys, not the sewing... Can you imagine me doing that after I just splurged on this

The color splashes!!!

Well, I'm saying goodbye to my old studio...

Actually, we are starting the renovation of some parts of the house... Okay, not some parts ALL parts except my Bedroom... It had been pending for a long time now... And finally we decided to start it soon...

Well, my new kitchen will be where my current sewing room is, my dining room will be in my current living room, Aadi's room in my current Dining room and my sewing room in my current computer room!

Too confusing??? Just pretend you didn't read it...

I'm absolutely excited about it...

The contractor has given me a time estimate of  3 weeks for the kitchen and 3 more for the rest of the house...

So soon enough, I'll be saying goodbye to this...

and these...

Everthing will have a proper place and I'm so looking forward to it!

I have some fabulous plans...

A dream kitchen in white that looks something like this...

Mine will be much longer and narrower, but you can get the feel!

We're also getting Aadi's room done!

Yeah we did that a few times, but this time, its going to be a real room with his wardrobe, study desk, his bed along with all furnishing...

I think I'll get his Dr Suess quilt ready in time for that one!

I think I'll go with a complete white background with lots of bold colors in furnishings!

I personally like the simple clear lines here...

I'll be adding a lot more color though!

I am also making a proper laundry room...
It will double up as a mud room and also a washing place - for washing utensils... In India, we have maids come in to do the dishwashing everyday and also the cleaning (sweeping & mopping)...

Right now I dont have one to do everything... She comes in for just an hour everyday to do whatever I want her to do... But pretty soon, I'm getting someone to work for me for about 3 hours a day...

So she needs a place to sit and wash all the dishes... So there's this washing place to be built...

I totally love the feel of this one

I'm going to try to keep mine similar to this...

And of course my sewing room!!!

So many possibilities!

I'm still thinking about that one!

I'll show you my make do sewing room tomorrow! I just finished shifting everything other than my BIG cutting table... Its too heavy for DH and me to shift by ourselves... We'll get some help tomorrow!

P.S. Do you know what I'm going to make from that Urbanista FQ Bundle... Any guesses?
