FQS Bella Parade Post # 15

I am hoping that Blogger is okay now... It seems that the problem was not with blogger but with my PC! Google Chrome was affected with some virus, it seems...
I am extremely sorry if that virus has caused any damage to any of my readers PCs... I doubt that would have happened, but just in case...

So back to FQS Bella Parade...

I am changing the rules from now on!

1. It will be only ONE PHOTO PER PERSON! Please upload the photo that you think works best. Write what you feel about that photo in the description. (this is optional, but will involve more participation)

(Eg. Title of Photo for 15th May will be 150511.)

3. You will get only 24 hours to upload the photos instead of the 48 that you get right now.

4. Irrelevant photos will be removed.

5. Winner will be chosen from the people who have uploaded the photos by Mr Random Org.

I hope you guys do not mind it.

So on to our

Today's color is

Bella Solids Purple Yardage SKU# 9900-21

My favorite, Wikipedia says "Purple is a range of hues of color occurring between red and blue. In additive light combinations it occurs by mixing the primary colors red and blue in varying proportions. It is a secondary color because two colors (blue and red) make up this color. In subtractive pigments it can be equal to the primary color magenta or be formed by mixing magenta with the colors red or blue, or by mixing just the latter two, in which case a color of low saturation will result. Low saturation will also be caused by adding a certain quantity of the third primary color (green for light or yellow for pigment). There is a disagreement over exactly which shades can be described as purple, some people preferring more precise terms such as magenta or heliotrope for particular shades. A difference in retinal sensitivity to red and blue light between individuals can cause further disagreement.
In color theory, a "purple" is defined as any non-spectral color between violet and red (excluding violet and red themselves). The spectral colors violet and indigo are not purples according to color theory but they are purples according to common English usage since they are between red and blue.
In art, purple is the color on the color wheel between magenta and violet and its tints andshades. This color, electric purple, is shown below.
In human color psychology, purple is also associated with royalty and nobility (stemming fromclassical antiquity when Tyrian purple was only affordable to the elites)."
Purple quilts are bold. They always make a statement. And I feel, you need to be able to carry that color! Not all of us can do that.
See the effect this one has on you...

or this one
trust me this one's a stunner

this one too

It looks good with most of the colors

But it looks especially striking when combined with white

So what will you use it with???

Our guest quilter, today is Liz Pawlik from Fat Chick Quilts

"My favorite thing about purple is that it makes me feel happy and relaxed.Purple is romantic and dreamy but also strong and intense. In my early teens, I painted my room purple, against my mother's wishes, and I will always remember how much I loved being in there. Something about it just speaks to me. "

Get back to me with your address...

So, our Expert for the week is Katy, from I'm a Ginger Monkey. One of the founder members of Fat Quarterly, the favorite quilting e-zine currently online, she is a master with colors! I am totally impressed by her choices and I'm strongly pushing aside her claims that she is no expert. She truly is and you'll know it once you've seen her choices.

Its a lovely bundle, Katy... And I'll add it to my cart...

  1. Thanks Shruti! So happy to have won one of your competitions! I've sent you my address, but also I'm in the Bee in Oz VQB with you so you should have it already.

  2. I love the new rules. I bet this will make things a little easier on you too.

  3. Thanks for being flexible enough to change the rules :) I just uploaded my first picture. I want that yard of purple!

  4. Purple used to be my favorite color - I'm loving it again!

  5. Shruti,

I think you should be providing credit for the photos that you are using to represent the colours.

While I appreciate your kind words about my Purple Magic Tiles quilt, the quilt should be attributed to me at least by name and/or by linking back to my web site.

Thank you for your comments... I try to reply to all of them personally, but sometimes life is just too fast to do that... But I love hearing from you...
