FQS Bella Parade Post # 5

Welcome all, great going!!!

Let me first announce the

Bella Solids Brown Yardage SKU# 9900-71

This is one of the darker neutrals...

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about it.

"Brown is a color term, denoting a range of composite colors produced by a mixture of orange, red, rose, or yellow with black or gray. The term is from Old English brún, in origin for any dusky or dark shade of color. The Common Germanic adjective *brûnoz, *brûnâ meant both dark colors and a glistening or shining quality, whence burnish. The current meaning developed in Middle English from the 14th century."

"As a color of low intensity, brown is a tertiary color: a mix of the three subtractive primary colors is brown if the cyan content is low. Brown exists as a color perception only in the presence of a brighter color contrast: yellow, orange, red, or rose objects are still perceived as such if the general illumination level is low, despite reflecting the same amount of red or orange light as a brown object would in normal lighting conditions.
The first recorded use of brown as a color name in English was in 1000."

Brown wholecloth quilts are regal and look stunning in a palatial setting...

It can be combined with both warm and cool colors to give striking quilts!

It can also be combined with white to give an oriental feel!

The possibilities are unending...
Even the unusual pink & brown combinations makes a strong statement...
Or brown and blue...
Confused about how to use it?
Let us see what our guests have picked for us...
Today's guest Quilter is Ruth better known as mommapudding.
Here's what she says,
"Firstly, I love brown, I wear it a lot. It's such an organic colour,(edit - glad to see some UK spelling here, The spell checker is saying it should be color, but I'm going to leave it as it is!)  and can be warm or cold, intense, dark or light. This one is rich, almost like peat. I know that a Brown Betty is actually an English Teapot, arguably the best teapot in the world, perfect shape and size for optimal water swirl around the leaves and concentration of water in the belly of the pot as not to get cold too quickly. I'm English, and love a good cup of tea ;)
I had several attempts at this colour selection, but kept coming back to my original scheme. Brown was huge in the late 60s and early 70s in British home decor, so I went from there."

  1. I love this rich brown colour, and good to see Ruth mentioning a Brown Betty teapot, took me right back to my grandmother's house. I especially like the Apples and Pears fabric, very retro. And well done for sticking to English spelling; I'm still looking for the button on my computer that will turn off the American spelling. Not that I've anything against Americans, but I'm English and want to spell that way!

  2. I'm in the brown parade, Shruti! Uploading on flickr...

Thank you for your comments... I try to reply to all of them personally, but sometimes life is just too fast to do that... But I love hearing from you...
